Black Magic Woman

It’s that time of year again!

When the moon rises earlier and the stylish gouls and gobblins come out to play.

If you love Autumn as much as I do than you must be excited for the pumpkin flavored everything, statement scarves, and chic must haves. Besides the fashion fall brings, I cannot wait until the premier of American Horror Story: Coven.

This chic yet eerie autumn look was inspired by the witches of the new American Horror Story season, Coven. The pops of red and bone infused details make this set unlike any other fall ready to wear look. The clean silhouette with statement accessories will leave any woman dressed to kill.

Make sure to watch tomorrow, October 9th on FX as the climatic series returns but this time with a magical twist. Even if you have never watched the series before make sure to tune in for the mind blowing thrill, as every season begins a new story uncorrelated with the past.

And remember If the broom fits, fly it!

Nail Time!

As you all know I love nail art! It has been a hobby of mine for over a year and I think it can really make you stand out from a crowd. I was lucky enough to attend IMATS this year in New York and while I was there I picked up a bunch of new nail polishes.

Screen Shot 2013-05-04 at 9.21.53 PM

Among the bunch are some from a drug store brand called Jesse’s Girl. Jesse’s Girl signed a deal with YouTube Guru JulieG to create a full line of polishes, even trendy textured ones! There was so many to choose from that through all the havoc I was able to pick three. The three I picked are all shimmer polishes with the names Dolled Up Dorothy, Southwest Sunset, and You-Niverse.The polishes come in a sleek compact and simple glass bottle that hold .35 oz of product and retail for $3.99. On my nails I have swatched each color with two coats of polish.

Dolled Up Dorothy in the bottle is a beautiful oxblood/wine color with gold flux. When swatched it looses some of the brightness and becomes more of a berry wine shimmer. I still really like this color though, seems nice for formal events.

Southwest Sunset in the bottle is a satin tea rose color with a really nice shimmer. When swatched it is a bit brighter and has a glowing golden undertone. This one had creamier consistency then Dolled up Dorothy and is probably my favorite among the three!

You-Niverse is a very iridescent color with tones of gold, bronze, blue, and green. It reminds me of a fish scale. It has a great consistency with even application and is not as dark when applied. It is a great duplicate for the Chanel Le Vernis polish in Peridot.

Have you every tried any of the JulieG polishes? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below! &&& If you haven’t yet seen my obsession make sure to check out my nail art page!

Technology is IT!

From the world wide web to mobile phone apps, technology runs our businesses and social lives. One of the biggest trends to take off in the past year is digital resolution prints. Photography and art have always made an impact on the fashion industry and now its time to embrace the obsession and show it off. So why not dare to don the digital era and wear high resolution?

Some great designers and retailers that support the visually stunning attire are Black Milk Clothing, Beloved Shirts, and We Are Handsome. Make sure to check out the collections and let me know what you think!

Remember the good ol’ days where the covers of every magazine from Vogue to Seventeen were graced with the faces of models, aka not actors or musicians. Just genuinely beautiful people that captured our hearts and walls. They were the girls we wanted to be with seemingly perfect hair and glowing skin. You know the women like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer.

What ever happened to being a craftsmen of your art? Seems like now a days everyone in the limelight is required to be a “triple threat”. Who made the rule that if you sing you should be in the movies and if your in the movies you should be the face of a huge designer?  Why can’t anyone just be amazing at one thing and call it enough? Don’t get me wrong I love my share of celebrities, but it seems like other then designers and stylists there’s no one to look up to in fashion for fashion. Our fashion celebrities have become the same people we turn to for comic relief or our favorite good mood tune. Models are the number 2 to actors and musicians for the covers that they deserve. I’m just saying that it would be refreshing to see someone unfamiliar for once on the cover of Vogue.

Lets talk Beauty!

Makeup is a fun and creative way to change up your everyday look. You do not have to be a professional make up artist to dabble in the cosmetic arts. I am by no means a cosmetic professional but I enjoy the art, if you havent seen my nail page check it out! Theres no need to go out to Sephora or Ulta and spend your life’s saving either! There is a huge misconception that drug store brands aren’t quality products. Good products can be like finding diamonds in coal, you never know what is inside unless you crack them open.

Everyday doesn’t always have to be dramatic but even for a natural day look there are products that I cannot live without. Whether I am running to class or an interview I always try and have a fresh face. I know that living in the city and working in the fashion industry means that getting 5 hours of sleep is a blessing so here are my tips to faking it!

Makeup

  1. Naked Pallet – Urban Decay $50
  2. Double Extend Mascara – L’Oreal $10
  3. POREfessional Primer – Benefit $30
  4. Lock-It Tattoo Foundation – Kat Von D $34
  5. Lipstick in Creme Cup – MAC Cosmetics $15

My beauty must haves include eyeshadow, mascara, face primer, foundation, and lipstick. Great eyeshadow accentuates your eyes! Urban Decay Naked Pallet has a great assortment of natural colors to enhance your eyes from day to night. My favorite kinds of mascaras’ are the ones that not only darken and lengthen your lashes, but open up your eyes and give the illusion that you are fully conscious and rested. Remember ladies, “To not prime is a crime!” Priming your face brightens and allows your skin to appear flawless without looking caked on. Now I know what your gonna think, but trust me on this one. If you want a smooth full coverage foundation Lock-It Tattoo Foundation by Kat Von D is my number one choice. I was skeptical about her products at first, but once you get through the makeup-y smell and set this foundation I promise you will never want to go back. The last token I can offer as a must have with me everyday is a MAC Lipstick. The shade I suggest everyone have is a pinky nude, mine is Creme Cup and I adore it!

Now that I gave you some of my tips let me guide you in the right direction with some of my favorite YouTube Beauty Guru’s. Their names are linked to their pages!

Fashion Week Fun

Everyone knows that as soon as February rolls around its time for the A-list to come out from hibernation and dawn their best Louboutins for New York Fashion Week.I was lucky enough to volunteer this season and get to see some of the upcoming Fall 2013 Fashions. I assisted with front of house for Billy Reid and Front Row.

Screen Shot 2013-02-21 at 10.51.05 PMBilly Reid was a very indie hipster chic collection. Unfortunately this show was during the blizzard, but that couldn’t keep the fashion die hard spectators away. Everything about that show from the set design to the music reminded me of Urban Outfitters. Last minute I was allowed to sit third row and watch the show first hand. It was a great experience to actually watch a show from the seats and not backstage.

Screen Shot 2013-02-21 at 10.51.24 PM

Front Row was defiantly a unique experience. With more of an urban feel this collection dawned head to toe leather. Some of the pieces were a stylist dream like the leather a-line dress. The audience didn’t fall short either. Some of the guests at this show included Tweet, Trina, Waka Flocka, and Rick Ross. This was a hip hop star studded event and had fashion that could only go out with their kinda bang.

Fake it till you make it

Hello Everyone! I know that I’ve been in a hiatus, but life in the big apple never stops. Let me explain why I’ve been gone for so long…

NYFW

After I last spoke to you guys I got a volunteering opportunity with Style360 working the Avril Lavigne Abby Dawn collection for fall/winter fashion week. It was an amazing experience and I am so excited for spring fashion week.

Grandma

Soon came the holiday and shortly before Thanksgiving a tragedy struck in my family, my paternal grandmother passed away. Losing her was so unexpected and devastated my family. As unfortunate as her passing was it brought my family together in a different way. We appreciate the things she did to make us a family, because without her none of us would be here.

My City

After Thanksgiving came and went I just wanted to be home. I never wanted to escape this island in my whole life, but this year was different. I had lost one of the building blocks in my family and being in this neighborhood felt like a shrine to something I would never get back. I wanted to be home in New Jersey more then anything. After the semester was over I headed back without hesitation. Seeing my old friends and family was just what I needed to help me realize that this life here in New York is the one that I’ve dreamed of since high school. While I was home I realized that my family has been nothing but supportive since day one and running away from here would ruin everything I’ve worked for in vain. My grandmother wanted me to succeed and I know she’d be upset with me if I gave it up because she was gone. This is the life that I’ve been working so hard to obtain, is so close I can taste it. I will taste it.
